Abstract Studies

Architecture distilled into form, rhythm, and emotion.

The Abstracts theme explores architecture beyond representation. These images move away from literal structure and toward gesture—where line, shadow, and surface become expressive elements. Familiar spaces dissolve into compositions that invite interpretation rather than explanation.

Graceful rings of warm wood ascend toward a luminous glass dome in this architectural portrait of the University of Zurich Law Library. Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, the space embodies harmony between intellect and structure — a sanctuary of order and illumination. The photograph captures the rhythmic precision of its elliptical balconies, each layer radiating warmth beneath the skylit vault. A testament to architectural eloquence, it reflects both the pursuit of knowledge and the quiet power of design.

Rising in a precise convergence of lines and light, Echoes of Geometry – Amman captures the meeting point of structure and sky. The image reveals the harmony between textured stone, tiled surfaces, and open space, where form becomes both boundary and invitation. Sunlight glides across the architectural planes, emphasizing the interplay between shadow and symmetry. This composition transforms modern geometry into an expression of stillness and contemplation—an architectural poem rendered in angles, textures, and silence.

Artist’s Note

Abstraction allows architecture to exist without obligation. In this body of work, I strip away scale and context to focus on rhythm, contrast, and visual tension. Lines bend, planes intersect, and shadows interrupt form—creating compositions that feel intuitive rather than descriptive.

Through these images, architecture becomes a language of feeling. What remains is not a building, but an atmosphere shaped by light, balance, and movement.

Jay Britto

“Abstraction is where architecture becomes instinctual for me. By removing context and scale, I’m free to focus on rhythm, contrast, and emotion. These images aren’t about explaining a space—they’re about how it feels when light, form, and shadow align in unexpected ways.”
